Job Retention Scheme extended until October, plus, important information for Self-employed workers by LWA
Rishi Sunak has just announced an extension to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) meaning employers will have the option to furlough staff until 31st October 2020, where they can still claim to receive the grant covering up to 80% of wages (up to the £2,500 cap per month per employee). The current scheme will stay in place as is until 31st July 2020.
Whilst Sunday's message from the Prime Minister was clear that only people that cannot work from home can start going back to the work environment this week, in today's announcement, the Government has also suggested that changes will be made to the furlough scheme to get more people back to work from August. The emphasis was on furloughed workers to be able to return to work part-time with employers being asked to pay a percentage towards the salaries of their furloughed staff from August. More details regarding this announcement are expected to be issued later in the month.
So far, 935,000 employers have furloughed 7.5 million jobs, and claimed £10.1 billion to help keep their businesses going and keep their staff earning.
ARE YOU ELIGIBLE TO MAKE A CLAIM?
If you can answer 'yes' to the points below, you are eligible to make a claim from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme:
• Had you created and started a PAYE payroll scheme on or before 19th March 2020?
• Have you enrolled for PAYE online?
• Does your business hold a UK bank account?
• Have you furloughed employees due to the impact of Covid-19 on your business?
• Had your employee(s) been notified to HMRC through an RTI submission notifying payment in respect of that employee on or before 19 March 2020?

UPDATE ON SELF-EMPLOYED INCOME SUPPORT SCHEME (SEISS)
If you are self-employed and eligible to claim from the SEISS, further to our recent updates, we have some additional guidance on how to make your claim from the portal, which should be live tomorrow (13 May 2020), however you can check your eligibility now by clicking below.
Self-employed clients wanting to claim the Covid-19 grant should NOT set up a new Government gateway ID in advance, as previously advised, but rather do so as step 1 of the application process. This means that you won’t have to wait for the postal authorisation code from HMRC, whilst also ensuring the correct details are recorded for the claim.
Check your eligibility below, and if you're approved, you’ll be given a date and time to make your claim anytime from 13th to 18th May onwards.
