Meet the Member - 3 Pugs Gin

Name of Business  3 Pugs Gin (Silverback Distillers Ltd)

Who are you?  We are a husband and wife team Christine & Stephen Ditchfield, who have 3 Pugs Pepsi, Tutu & MoJo.

What sets you apart from the competition?  We are family owned, passionate gin distiller. We pride ourselves in the development of our blends and only use the finest botanicals.  Of course our Pugs are an integral part of our brand.

How did your business come about?  As passionate gin drinkers with a gin cabinet groaning under the weight of over 100 bottles, we were quite knowledgable of the market.  We went to a gin tasting over four years ago now and had most of the gins on offer, I announced at the end of the evening that we should make our own gin so we did and here we are having created an established successful brand.

What are your main target markets? Obviously wet trade as well as specialist outlets. We have achieved listings with most major online retailers, along with Selfridges and Fenwicks. We are looking at potential export opportunities over the next several months too.

How long has your business been in existence?  We launched in November 2016, and became a Ltd company in March 2017.

How many staff do you employ?  Just the two of us at present, but we are looking at more staff during the coming months

• What job or achievement makes you most proud?  In just over two years we have produced a portfolio of 5 Liqueurs and 2 Full strength Gins - quite an achievement really.

Where do you see the business being in five years?  Hopefully, an established well know distillery within the industry.

Why Warrington?   Both Ste and I are Warrington born and bred so where else would we want to be. It's a vibrant and established town with big plans for the future. We are very proud of Warrington and of being Warringtonians.

Tell us one interesting thing about the business that might surprise us.  It was a whim, a dream that everyone said was a pipe dream largely due to our ages (over 60’s).  But nothing is impossible and I think we are proof of that - hard work and vision are all that’s needed.

Tell us one interesting thing about you that people might not know?  When I was 18 years old, I gave up my job as a typist and went to become a Redcoat at Butlins……

• Brexit – good, bad, opportunity?  This as an opportunity to make the best of whatever agreement comes from this process.  There are pros and cons to everything but nothing that can’t be turned around for the best.  We need to work together to ensure we become and remain a strong independent country whether it be in or out. Let's not lose our individualism.

• Fantasy dinner party:  David Bowie –  my husband loves his music, Marilyn Munroe – for the gossip, she must know things that would make your hair curl, Tommy Cooper – for the laughter. My dad loved him. My dad – just to have one more hug, kiss, conversation. I miss him and he would have been so proud of what we have achieved. Coco Chanel – what tales would we hear…  My Aunty Jo – we lost her when I was quite young and I have loads of questions for her – she was a fashion icon in my eyes
