Meet the Member - Colleen Bass - Connect203
*Name of Business Connect203
•Who are you? Dr Colleen Bass, Chartered Marketer, Fellow Chartered Institute of Marketing,
• What sets you apart from the competition? There are many strategic level marketers with 20+ years experience . What sets me apart from the competition is that I also have 15+ years strategic level human resource management experience which helps with understanding the people elements of marketing. I've also achieved a Doctorate in reputation management.
•How did the business come about? Connect203 came into being following my relocation to Cheshire. Having completed my doctorate, I wanted to find a new challenge and work within the Cheshire and Warrington region.
•What are your main target markets? Our main target markets are business owner/managers who don't have the capacity or time to focus on gaining the insight required to identify where the business needs to be in the future or how they are going to get there. Connect203 can support the development of a marketing strategy, integrated marketing plans or other marketing activities to provide a way of achieving business objectives and growth potential.
•What job or achievement makes you most proud? I am most proud of gaining my Doctorate in reputation management - after 5 years of intense part-time study. At the same time, I was also employed - on a full-time basis - as a Director with responsibility for setting up and managing several international franchised partnership arrangements.
•Where do you see the business being in five years? I would like to see a successful marketing business that employs the next generation of marketers who want to put their energy into helping Cheshire and Warrington succeed.
• Why Warrington? I attended the Warrington Business Exchange Launch in March 2018 and was struck by the friendliness and the sheer determination and passion of local people who wanted Warrington succeed. I think their determination and passion resonated with my inner determination - at that moment, I was hooked and ready to fly the flag for Warrington.
• Tell us one interesting thing about the business that might surprise us? It's been 35 years in the making. I have always had a desire to set up my own business.
• Tell us one interesting thing about you that people might not know? (ie, hobbies, amusing fact, etc) The great explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes once asked me for directions from Birmingham to Newcastle Under Lyme :)
•Brexit – good, bad, opportunity The decision has been made to exit the EU. We need to pull together as a country and just get on with it. Look for the opportunities and make it work for us.
•Fantasy dinner party – which six people alive or dead would you invite? My invitees all have good stories to tell. (1) Barack Obama - I am mesmerised by his leadership style (2) Oprah Winfrey - I admire the fact that she has taken responsibility for herself and made good (3) Anthony Robbins - because he helps people to better their life and reach their full potential (4) Richard Branson - for his fearlessness and thinking outside the box (5) Eleanor Roosevelt - love her quotes, for example, you learn by living (6) Steve Jobs - because he was a great disruptor.
