Meet the member - Darren James Higginbottom from Good Egg Creative Communications

Name of Business  Good Egg Creative Communications

Who are you? Darren James Higginbottom … Free range thinker, Graphic Designer, All-round Good Egg. I’m a graphic designer of nearly twenty years experience at the very highest level on the agency circuits in London, Manchester, and Nottingham.

I pride myself on delivering work of the very highest calibre. and I have consistently delivered first class projects for clients across a vast variety of backgrounds.

What sets you apart from the competition?

I offer a premium quality, award winning graphic design service packed with creativity and craft.

Top class agency quality without the ego. This is all combined with an old fashioned friendly, and positive approach to work based on honesty, flexibility, trustworthiness, and damn hard graft. Hey, I'm from the East Midlands - its what we do!

How did the business come about?

I realised very early on that my aptitude for the business side of creativity was very much alive.

During a period between full time roles back in 2007 - I started gently experimenting at sourcing freelance clients from the back bedroom of my Mum’s house! And thus … Good Egg Creative was born, and the rest is history.

What are your main target markets?

My skill set will service the marketing needs of businesses at any level - however my specialisms are with

1 - Startups and entrepreneurs starting out on their branding journey.

2 - Businesses with text and data heavy documents - such as financial organisations, law firms, pharmaceutical companies, and construction firms that need a touch of creative magic to bring the important information to life within their reports, brochures, tenders and technical documents

3 - SMEs across a number of sectors looking for a visual refresh across print and digital spectrums.

How long has your business been in existence?

I have been trading since 2007.

How many staff do you employ?

Currently I’m a sole trader - however in the very near future I would like to expand by way of taking on a couple of junior designers at the start of their careers.

I’d like to give something back to the industry, and help develop and nurture younger talents.

What job or achievement makes you most proud?

During my time in the capital city - I had many of my creative campaigns on display around Central London - posters on the underground, ads wrapped around black cabs, and pasted onto the sides of London buses.

For a shy lad from the East Midlands - to achieve that kind of exposure, felt pretty special at the time, not to mention a touch surreal.

Where do you see the business being in five years?

We will be set up in some stunning, crisp studios within a charming and quirky old farm house building or something similar - in beautiful leafy Cheshire.

My crack team of designers and account managers will be running the engine room, whilst I concentrate on developing and expanding the business further

Why Warrington?

I moved to Warrington in the first instance to live with my other half … however it became very clear to me that Warrington was a place with such a lot of scope and reach.

It is a buzzing little business hub all of its own with many new connections possible.

With the creative stronghold of Manchester close by, along with the vibrant cities of Liverpool, and Chester, the business can remain bang up to the minute, have its finger on the pulse, and remain relevant in the industry whilst feeding that level of creativity and into the local business community.

Tell us one interesting thing about the business that might surprise us?

I once delivered a creative pitch for an ad campaign to the governors of the Bank of China in St Paul’s, London. After I'd presented - the ideas were then forwarded onto the Chinese President Xi Jinping for consideration.

Incidentally - I didn’t win the pitch!

Tell us one interesting thing about you that people might not know? (ie, hobbies, amusing fact, etc)

I’m a very keen boxer, and very nearly turned professional in my teens.

I am still actively on the boxing circuit and count many ex pros and current pros among my friends. I am currently training to become an accredited boxing for fitness instructor.

Fantasy dinner party – which six people alive or dead would you invite?

Muhammad Ali, Bob Marley, Ant Middleton, Brian Clough, Robert De Niro, and Kylie Minogue. (I’ve had a crush on her since I was a kid!)
