Meet the Member - Gilly Thompson from Thompson Training

Name of Business Thompson Training and Development

Who are you? Gilly Thompson

What sets you apart from the competition? We deliver no nonsense sales training, management training and business coaching to help you grow your business and harness the power of your people. Our training is high energy, high impact, fully interactive and delivers results not just in the classroom but back in the workplace where it matters.

How did the business come about? After a hugely successful corporate career working with Marks & Spencer, BT and IBM, I moved ‘up north’ and started working for Durex Condoms. After winning several awards for my sales achievements, I moved into Pharmaceutical sales as a Key Account Director. My passion then was the training and development of my sales team, as well as my customers. This lead me to join a sales training company in Wilmslow and from there I set up Thompson Training and Development.

What are your main target markets? Predominantly we work with SME’s who have sales teams of between 5 – 50 people, usually in both telesales roles and field-based BDM roles.

• How long has your business been in existence? Thompson Training and Development was established in 2014.

• How many staff do you employ? We have a team of 6 associate trainers who are experts in sales and leadership development.

• What job or achievement makes you most proud? Winning Global Sales Person of the Year 2007 & 2008 for Durex and growing Thompson Training and Development to what it is now!

• Where do you see the business being in five years? We are taking the business online in 2019 as we see this as being the future of learning and development!

• Tell us one interesting thing about the business that might surprise us? We were invited by the Department of International Trade as a Training Expert to present at a showcase in the Czech Republic. We were hosted by the British Chamber of Commerce at the British Embassy where we had a presentation slot and the chance to meet with Czech companies who were interested in training and education.

• Tell us one interesting thing about you that people might not know? (i.e. hobbies, amusing fact, etc.) I am really into football! #Bolton

• Brexit – good, bad, opportunity? I have no idea…does anyone?

• Fantasy dinner party – which six people alive or dead would you invite? Sir Jerry Robinson, Sir Bobby Robson, Margaret Thatcher, Martin Luther King, and Emily Pankhurst
