Meet the member - Jamie Boyd from Today Team Ltd

• Name of Business Today Team Ltd.

Who are you? A logistics company that specialises in B2B time critical and mission critical collections and deliveries

What sets you apart from the competition? We’re passionate about customer service and getting the job done right, we’re known for reliability with our clients.

• How did the business come about? I’m an ex professional rugby league player that had to retire at 24 due to injury, the Princes Trust loaned me £3K and I jumped in a van and got started.

What are your main target markets? We do lots of work in the manufacturing sector

• How long has your business been in existence? Since May 2005

How many staff do you employ? 15 full time as well as number of part time

• What job or achievement makes you most proud? Our recent CIPD award win for ‘Best SME People Management Initiative’, we’ve invested heavily in our organisational development and it’s great to be recognised for it.

• Where do you see the business being in five years? Much bigger in terms of revenue and people and a broader logistic service offering

Why Warrington? I grew up here, so it made sense to set up here, we’re in a great location with two major cities either side of us and a thriving business community

Tell us one interesting thing about the business that might surprise us? We once delivered an urgent stuffed cat to the set of a horror movie – they couldn’t continue to film without it and were very happy to see our driver

• Tell us one interesting thing about you that people might not know? (i.e., hobbies, amusing fact, etc) – I auditioned to go on Dragons Den in the early days of running the business, passed the audition then turned them down.

• Brexit – good, bad, opportunity? – Who knows… I’m a big believer in concentrating on what we’re doing a business today rather than worrying what the future holds. Should it be negative it’ll just be another challenge to overcome.

• Fantasy dinner party – which six people alive or dead would you invite? Winston Churchill, Shawn Carter (aka Jay Z), Steve Coogan, Scarlett Johansson, Mick Jagger and Barack Obama
