Meet the Member - MSIF

  •  Name of Business MSIF 
  • Who are you? We are one of the leading go-to alternative finance providers for SME’s across the North West and North Wales. 
  • What sets you apart from the competition? We are a personalised and simplified service; taking the confusion out of the maze which can be business funding. MSIF are fortunate enough to manage multiple funds, including our own, meaning that we have the flexibility to tailor the funding to what is best for the business we are working with.  
  • How did the business come about? MSIF was founded in 1994 with the aim to financially support businesses across the Merseyside area. Now, we have supported over 2,000 businesses, not only in the Liverpool City Region, but across the wider North West and North Wales.  
  • What are your main target markets? We aim to help any type of business with funding possibilities, whether this is with debt, micro finance, equity, an MBO or Start Up – we strive to support as many businesses we can.   As well as business owners, we want to be known to our key partners too across the professional services sector. The more we can shout about the good we do, the more we can work as a syndication to bring further growth to the region.   
  • How long has your business been in existence? MSIF turns 25 this year – so this is a very exciting time for us! We have big plans to reposition ourselves in the market and make ourselves better known for the great work we do.  
  • How many staff do you employ? We usually sit between 15 and 20 members of staff, however, this isn’t for MSIF alone. MSIF proudly operates as an umbrella to look after other initiatives and operational arms of the business, known as the MSIF Finance Hub and the LCR Angel Network.  The Finance Hub works as free gateway to funding; supporting early growth and Start Up businesses for the best chance achieve application success. The Finance Hub helps to support these businesses through introduction, referral, business plans and cash forecasts (just to name a few).   The LCR Angel Network is a relatively new initiative, brought to fruition by MSIF, Brabners and Grant Thornton’s – Grow with G, to create growth and drive opportunity through Angel Investment in the region. The network hosts several ‘pitch’ events throughout the year, allowing founders and directors alike to showcase their business for Angel support.  
  • What job or achievement makes you most proud? Of course, this would be seeing our businesses thrive through the help of MSIF. We don’t just help in terms of loans and financials, we stay with the business every step of the way; from finding the right funding to post-investment support. We want to ensure every business we deal with, we do so with holistic and human approach, delivering a satisfied service across the board and best opportunity for success! 
  • Where do you see the business being in five years? Ah, we may be holding our cards close to our chest on that one. What we can say is that we want to support as many businesses as we can, further across the region, with as many funds we are fortunate to manage.  
  • Why Warrington? We feel there is a real appetite for growth in Warrington. The calibre and volume of high-performing businesses in the area is a key indicator of further acceleration for local economy to come. We want to help provide the best and most visible opportunity for funding to businesses who need our support to grow and start.
