Whilst most employees try and keep their personal and private lives separate, personal issues, such as family problems, childcare, health and wellbeing, substance abuse, break-ups and financial worries can have an impact in the workplace and on an employee’s ability to carry out their work. Managing an employee going through a difficult and stressful period can be challenging if the right support, awareness and training is not in place to manage such situations. We will discuss how employers and managers can support employees whilst dealing with personal issues and what employers can or should expect of their employees and work colleagues.
