However, with many businesses feeling the pressure of recession like never before, Costas is unsure whether these 'headline grabbing' announcements will go far enough. 

Costas Nicolaou, Dispute Resolution Senior Associate Solicitor at Aaron & Partners, said:

"Businesses and consumers were bracing themselves for a potential fuel duty increase, so they'll be relieved following the Chancellor's announcement he is to maintain the current 5p cut and freeze fuel duty for another 12 months.

"Amid increasingly bleak economic times, firms, particularly those in sectors such as logistics and transport, haven't had a great deal to cheer over the past few years. Therefore this will boost many SMEs and other companies operating in crucial supply chains up and down the UK.

"But these headline-grabbing announcements come against a cost of living crisis and recession, where many businesses are feeling the pressure like never before, so it remains to be seen if the extension of these measures really goes far enough."
